Freude in German is "Joy" and the word "Freudenfreude" means to take pleasure in others joy! Joy falls under the empathy category of emotions. I have always loved to make people smile 😄 and to bring joy and happiness to others. I love emotions and joy in particular is my favorite emotion. 💖
As a communications professional, I also love words. The word "joy" has a long history in my life. I once started a summer day camp for the youth in my neighborhood when I was a younger teen. I called it "Joy Explosion." 🎆
It was just a short week long program (maybe two weeks), but I was very proud of it because it was one of the first things I pitched and ran outside of a school or church program on my own and was able to make happen. (Technically, I did this with my boyfriend at the time, and he provided the program music and drew the program for the advertising at my direction) but it was all my brain child 🧠, agenda, and I got the permission, funding💲and talked him into it! lol
My baby sister's name is Carol which means "joyful song," 🎵 and for years I used to describe her as my twin that is 5 years younger. When we get to talking and on a roll, we can make each other laugh 🤣 and riff off of each other like we should have our own show in Vegas. 🎰 She is magic. 🪄 Pure joy! 🌟
And one of my favorite foster mother's names was Carol. She was a choir director and an elementary school teacher 👩🏫 and was incredibly kind to everyone. She taught me the meaning of the word "Carol." She could play anything on the piano by ear, and loved music as much as I did. She expanded my music vocabulary and never quenched my thirst to explore music 🎶, books, movies or any expressions of art that I showed an affinity for. This was a very rare gift 🎁 for me in my childhood, and one that I was deeply grateful 🙏 for and did not squander during my time in her home. 🏡
My very first puppy 🐕 for my farm that was not a rescue (most of my animals are rescues) is named Eloise Joy. And one of my favorite Christmas🎄Carol is "Joy to the World," 🎵 because that is such a beautiful thing to wish for people - joy! 🪩
For whatever reason, the word "joy" or "freude" or "alegría" in spanish or "joie" (french) has just always held a very special place in my heart. I do enjoy words, meanings, pronunciations and sometimes the origins and etymologies of words (and phrases) if they are meaningful to me. 🌼
So when I first heard the word Freudenfreude several years ago I was intrigued. Not only with the root of the word being "joy," but also by the sound of the word.
It just sort of trips off of the tip of one's tongue like it's in a hurry to dance💃 out into the world and start making people smile! 😄
- It's pronounced "froi-dun-froi-duh"
- Froi (kinda like frog + roy)
- Dun (like done)
- Duh (duuuuh!
I find it quite fun to say! So much so, that it makes me laugh and want to say it more and more, so I do! 💖 And that makes me feel happy and joyful - and just say it some more! 🌟
I've been playing around with some fun Moji graphics and having a graphical blast 🎆 while I've been doing some serious soul searching about the next phase of my career. This word keeps coming up for me in the past couple of weeks. It has literally popped up on Facebook, LinkedIn, in email and in a recent conversation with friends. 🗣️
So I started creating some Moji art which always my heart feel light. Depending on what I need, it can put me in touch with my feelings. Or just be a stress reducer. It can boost my productivity or enhance my mood. 💡 I am learning so many different ways to use art and creativity in my life now that I am open to exploring it as a tool. 📣
How would you express freude or freudenfreude with emoji or Moji Pop Art? Or with your medium of art? 🎨
What brings you joy or happiness? 😄 Let me know in the comments. 🗨️
