Have you heard the viral sensation that exploded on TikTok, YouTube and basically all over the Internet? You know, the song that resonated with half the world? "If I Were a Fish," by CoRook and Olivia Barton, became an instant anthem of individuality and self-acceptance... its joyful melody and playful lyrics swimming through the digital currents like a school of iridescent emoji fishies. And me, like so many others, was hooked from the first listen. 👂🦻
My love affair with the song wasn't just a casual dip in the shallows - it was a deep-sea dive. The weekend melted away as I surrendered to its infectious rhythm, the lyrics weaving themselves into the fabric of my being after a friend shared it. And of course after I watched it. I immediately devoured articles like the one from NPR (link at the bottom), digging deeper into the song's origins and its meteoric rise to fame. I lost myself in CoRook and Olivia's artistry, other songs (sooooo good!), their talent and passion fueling my own creative fire. ❤️🔥
And then, the art began. Inspired by the song's vibrant message and the endless possibilities of emoji, I embarked on a journey of creation. My canvas was Canva, a touch of PPT, and of course, the palette, the ever-expressive faces and symbols of the OpenMoji library of open source emoji. Hours turned into days, the song on constant loop, each emoji a brushstroke of self-expression. 🖌️ This one was particularly fun and joyful.
The result, now sitting on my private IG, is a testament to the power of "If I Were a Fish." It's a celebration of individuality, a colorful declaration of "the you-est of you and the me-est of me." But it's also a reflection, a moment of pondering the complexities of the digital world that amplifies the song's message. 👩🎨📢
It is true, the Internet can be a harsh ocean, teeming with negativity and judgment. But to focus solely on the darkness is to ignore the dazzling coral reefs of connection, the colorful schools of creativity, the endless opportunities for understanding and empathy. The Internet is a double-edged sword ⚔️, and it's our responsibility, our privilege, to wield its light-bringing edge with purpose. 🤺
That's why we must celebrate artists like CoRook and Olivia 🙌, creators whose work shines through the murk, reminding us of the beauty that surrounds us.
