Lantern festivals light up communities, and engineering makes them stronger. Today's Emoji-A-Day post is focused on Lantern Day which marks the end of Lunar New Year. Lanterns have lit the way for centuries, symbolizing new beginnings and the power of community. 🤝 

Today, we also celebrate that same spirit of innovation on Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. These aren't just traditions – they hold the spark that shapes our future. Lantern riddles are a playful tradition of Lunar New Year festivities. They're tricky word puzzles that test your knowledge and make you think outside the box.The tradition of the Lantern Riddles began in the 13th Century where scholars would write riddles on slips of paper and attach them to lanterns for crowds to solve. Those who were successful won a small gift as a reward. The object of the game is to correctly solve riddles. Just like these riddles, engineering is all about finding creative solutions. Let these brain-teasers inspire you! 🎇

Here are some examples of the types of riddles that could be included in the celebration:

• Riddle - I have a body, but no legs. A neck, but no head. I can weep, but have no eyes. What am I? Answer - Candle 🕯️ (often placed inside lanterns)

• Riddle - With buttons and a screen so bright, I hold knowledge within my light. Worlds of answers at your command, A tiny helper in your hand. What am I? Answer - Smartphone 📱

• Riddle - Though I have no voice to speak, My instructions are always clear and meek. With twists and turns, and careful measure, I help you build a lasting treasure. What am I? Answer - Blueprint 🗺️

• Riddle - I have a heart that never beats, And eyes that see, but lack all feats. I travel the world without a sound, My knowledge stored, forever bound. What am I? Answer - Computer 🖥️

• Riddle - Can you name three consecutive days without using Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday? Answer - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow 🗓️

• Riddle - I am not alive, but I grow; I don't have lungs, but I need air; I don't have a mouth, but water kills me. What am I? Answer - Fire 🔥

• Riddle - With boundless mind and spirit bright, I tackle challenges with all my might. My ideas flow, a brilliant stream, The future's builder, that is my dream. What am I? Answer - A Girl (young people) in STEM 🧑‍💻👩‍💻
